This Coram PACEY safeguarding course has been designed to help you meet your responsibilities as the Designated Safeguarding Lead. It meets all the criteria for effective safeguarding training outlined in Annex C of the EYFS safeguarding reforms (effective 1 September 2025) and the content is fully endorsed by Cache (the Council for Awards in Care, Health, and Education) the leading specialist awarding organisation for the care and education sector.

The course is broken down into four parts. You will have the opportunity to watch video clips, download resources, reflect on your practice, read practical examples, and check your understanding. The information, extra information links and activities provided are designed to offer practical ideas to promote further thinking/reflective practice about safeguarding children. 

Learning outcomes

By the end of part one of the training, you will be able to define of the key concepts of safeguarding, duty of care, and child protection. You will be able to identify the main categories of abuse, harm, and neglect, while also exploring other types of abuse. Additionally, you will be able to recognise signs that may indicate abuse, harm, or neglect at the earliest opportunity. Finally, you will understand factors, situations, and actions that can lead to or contribute to abuse, harm, or neglect. 

By the end of part two of the training you will be able to identify ways to work that safeguard children from abuse, harm, and neglect. You will understand how to respond, record, and effectively refer concerns or allegations related to safeguarding in a timely and appropriate way and know what happens after a referral. Finally, you will be able to identify the setting’s safeguarding policy and procedures. 

By the end of part three of the training you will be able to identify the legislative, regulatory requirements and national policies for safeguarding children within an early years setting. You will understand codes of conduct and professional practice in relation to safeguarding as well as your roles and responsibilities, and those of other relevant professionals involved in safeguarding. 

By the end of part four of the training you will be able to understand how to create and maintain a safe organisational culture, and how to ensure safer recruitment. You will be able to create, develop, and implement safeguarding policies and procedures. You will understand how to support and work with others to safeguard children in addition to identifying local child protection procedures and how to refer and escalate concerns. You will understand how to manage and monitor allegations of abuse against other staff and finally, you will understand how to ensure internet safety.

You will have six months to complete the course and can print a certificate on completion. Be advised that the EYFS safeguarding reforms state that safeguarding training must be renewed every two years.
