In this course you will have the opportunity to watch video clips, download resources, reflect on your practice, read practical examples and check your understanding. The information, extra information links and activities provided are designed to offer practical ideas to promote further thinking and reflective practice.
This course has a welcome and introduction and then is in four parts, and each part of the course is accompanied by a short quiz to check learners’ knowledge. Once you have completed all parts and quizzes, you will be asked to complete an evaluation survey. Once you have done this, you will be able to access your certificate.

Welcome and introduction
The part serves as an introduction to the course and the EYFS
Part one: The learning and development requirements
By the end of part one of the training learners will have the knowledge to be able to:
- Demonstrate how activities support the prime and specific areas of learning
- Apply non-statutory guidance
- Understand the characteristics of effective learning and how they support children’s development
- Plan for continuous provision
- Create enabling environments
Part two: Assessment
By the end of part two of the training learners will have the knowledge to be able to:
- Understand the difference types of assessment
- Define the assessment requirements of the EYFS
- Monitor children’s progress
- Establish children’s starting points
- Understand the observation, assessment and planning cycle
- Recognise the importance of the progress check at age 2
- Appreciate and facilitate the voice of the child
Part three: The safeguarding and welfare requirements
By the end of part three of the training learners will have the knowledge to be able to:
- Understand the requirements of a childminder
- Apply the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the EYFS in your practice
Part four: Reflective practice
By the end of part four of the training learners will have the knowledge to be able to:
- Demonstrate the importance of reflective practice
