Together, these two courses provide a practical pathway for childminders who are starting out. Starting your childminding business builds confidence in setting up and running a sustainable childminding business, while Delivering the EYFS for childminders supports high-quality delivery of the EYFS in everyday practice. Taken together, they give learners the knowledge, reassurance and practical tools they need to create a safe, well-managed and enriching childcare setting.
Delivering the EYFS for childminders
The course explores the requirements of the Early years foundation stage statutory framework for childminders and how these may be delivered in their setting. This course has been updated to include the changes to the safeguarding and welfare requirements that come into effect on 1 September 2026. In this course you will have the opportunity to watch video clips, download resources, reflect on your practice, read practical examples and check your understanding. The information, extra information links and activities provided are designed to offer practical ideas to promote further thinking and reflective practice.
This course has a welcome and introduction and then is in four parts, and each part of the course is accompanied by a short quiz to check learners’ knowledge. Once you have completed all parts and quizzes, you will be asked to complete an evaluation survey. Once you have done this, you will be able to access your certificate.
Starting your childminding business
This course provides a practical introduction to starting a childminding business. You'll explore the skills and responsibilities involved in leading and managing a home-based childcare setting, gain an understanding of self-employment, tax and financial requirements, and learn how to plan and grow your business with confidence. The course also covers essential topics such as business planning, insurance, sources of support, and the process of registering with the appropriate regulatory body, helping you build a strong foundation for your childminding career.
Throughout this course, you'll engage with a range of interactive learning activities, including video clips, downloadable resources, practical examples, and reflective exercises designed to strengthen your knowledge and confidence in practice. The course is divided into four parts. Parts one, two, and three are essential and must be completed, while part four is an optional extension that provides valuable additional information about registering with Ofsted.
